BAYWATT RESOLUTE — Resettable Marine Push Button Switches

  • BAYWATT
  • 22mm / 7/8"
  • 3A–20A
  • 12V / 24V DC
  • Thermal Protection
  • IP68 Front
  • Blue / Green LED

The BAYWATT RESOLUTE Series is a range of 22mm resettable marine push button switches with integrated thermal overload protection, designed for boat dashboards, helm stations, center consoles, refit panels and custom 12V or 24V DC electrical systems.

RESOLUTE combines the function of a marine push button switch with a thermal protection element inside one compact control. Instead of using a separate switch and push-to-reset thermal breaker, the same 22mm unit can control the load, indicate its operating status and disconnect the circuit during a sustained overload condition.

Standard versions feature a black anodized aluminium front, IP68 front protection, a 90cm / 35.4in pre-wired harness and a blue / green LED ring: blue indicates OFF and green indicates ON.

Highlights & Key Features

Switching and resettable thermal protection in one 22mm control. RESOLUTE provides a clean solution for marine dashboards where circuit control, LED indication and overload protection would otherwise require several separate components.

  • 22mm marine push button format for compact dashboards
  • Integrated thermal overload protection
  • Latching ON/OFF and momentary ON versions
  • Ratings from 3A to 20A depending on function
  • 12V / 24V DC versions
  • IP68 front protection
  • Blue OFF / green ON LED indication
  • 90cm / 35.4in pre-wired cable
  • Standard black anodized aluminium front

Important: RESOLUTE uses thermal overload protection. Trip time therefore depends on the amount of overload and the thermal condition of the switch. Select the amperage according to the connected equipment and cable size — never increase the rating simply to prevent the switch from tripping.

22mm Marine Push Button with Integrated Thermal Protection

Integrated Circuit Protection RESOLUTE monitors the current flowing through the controlled circuit. During a sustained overload, its thermal mechanism disconnects the load according to the switch rating and overload level.
Automatic Thermal Reset Once the overload is removed and the internal thermal element cools, the protection mechanism returns to normal operating condition without requiring replacement of a fuse.
Compact 22mm Installation Switching, LED status and thermal protection are integrated into one compact control, helping reduce the number of components required on a marine electrical panel.
Clear LED Status The illuminated blue / green ring gives immediate visual confirmation of the circuit status on boat dashboards and helm panels.

A Modern Alternative to Separate Marine Switches and Thermal Breakers

Traditional boat electrical panels often use one switch to control the equipment and a separate push-to-reset marine circuit breaker to protect the circuit. This works, but requires additional panel space, wiring and components.

RESOLUTE combines these functions into one compact 22mm marine push button. The result is a cleaner dashboard with fewer visible components, while maintaining resettable thermal overload protection.

Traditional Panel
  • Separate ON/OFF switch
  • Separate thermal circuit breaker
  • Multiple mounting holes
  • Additional panel wiring
  • More dashboard space required
RESOLUTE Solution
  • Switch and thermal protection combined
  • Single 22mm mounting hole
  • Integrated LED status indication
  • Pre-wired 90cm harness
  • Cleaner OEM-style installation

How RESOLUTE Thermal Overload Protection Works

RESOLUTE uses a thermal protection mechanism rather than electronic current limiting. As current rises above the selected switch rating, heat builds inside the protection element.

A moderate overload can therefore be tolerated for a limited period, while a much larger overload causes the circuit to disconnect much faster. Once the excessive current is removed and the thermal element cools, the switch can return to normal operation.

Switch Rating Approx. Long-Time Current 1.5× Rating Approx. 2× Rating Reset
5A 6A 7.5A — disconnects in approx. 150–270 sec. 10A — approx. 5 sec. Automatic after cooling
10A 12A 15A — disconnects in approx. 150–270 sec. 20A — approx. 5 sec. Automatic after cooling
15A 18A 22.5A — disconnects in approx. 150–270 sec. 30A — approx. 5 sec. Automatic after cooling
20A 24A 30A — disconnects in approx. 150–270 sec. 34A — approx. 5 sec. Automatic after cooling

Choose the rating according to the protected circuit. The purpose of RESOLUTE is to disconnect the connected circuit during an excessive current condition. The selected amperage must therefore remain compatible with both the equipment and the installed cable.

Blue / Green LED Status Indication

RESOLUTE uses an illuminated LED ring to provide immediate visual confirmation of switch status without requiring a separate indicator lamp.

Blue — OFF Blue illumination identifies a circuit that is currently switched off, making the control easy to locate on a dark dashboard.
Green — ON Green illumination confirms that the circuit is active and the connected equipment has been switched on.
Backlit Function Labels RESOLUTE can be combined with BAYWATT 22mm marine push button symbols and text labels to identify lights, pumps, horn, navigation circuits and other onboard functions.

Pre-Wired for Cleaner Marine Electrical Installations

Every RESOLUTE switch is supplied with a 90cm / 35.4in pre-wired harness, making it easier to route the wiring behind helm stations, center consoles and compact custom boat dashboards.

Typical conductor configuration:

  • 14 AWG main switch conductor
  • 16 AWG thermal / switch conductor
  • 22 AWG LED positive conductor
  • 22 AWG LED negative conductor

For larger custom panels, multiple circuits can be arranged through a dedicated marine bus bar to simplify DC distribution and keep the wiring organised and accessible.

RESOLUTE or DEFIANCE — Which Marine Push Button Should You Choose?

RESOLUTE and DEFIANCE share the same modern 22mm marine push-button philosophy, but their protection systems serve different purposes.

Choose RESOLUTE
  • Integrated thermal overload protection
  • Protection acts on the controlled circuit
  • Automatic reset after cooling
  • 3A to 20A ratings
  • 12V / 24V DC versions
  • Ideal replacement for traditional thermal breaker layouts
Choose DEFIANCE
  • 316 stainless steel front as standard
  • Solid-state electronic switching
  • Up to 20A at 12V DC
  • Dual and tri-color LED functions
  • Two-channel and Nav/Anchor versions available
  • Internal overload self-protection for the switch electronics

Need SS316 and electronic overload self-protection instead? Consider the BAYWATT DEFIANCE solid-state marine push button series . DEFIANCE protects its own solid-state switching electronics during overload conditions, whereas RESOLUTE uses thermal protection to disconnect the controlled circuit. DEFIANCE therefore does not replace the fuse or circuit breaker required to protect the connected wiring and equipment.

Frequently Asked Question

Will the RESOLUTE switch nuisance-trip on motor inrush (bilge pump, windlass, blower)?

RESOLUTE uses a bimetallic thermal element, not an instant-threshold fuse. It trips on a time/current curve: a brief startup surge from a pump or blower is absorbed without tripping, while a sustained overload above rating trips within seconds to a couple of minutes depending on how far above the rated current the circuit runs. Choose the rating against the equipment's running current, not its momentary inrush spike — the thermal curve already tolerates the spike.

How do I size the switch RESOLUTE against cable length and voltage drop, not just amps?

Pick the breaker rating to protect the cable, then size the cable for the run length and an acceptable voltage drop — usually under 3% for a 12V/24V circuit. RESOLUTE's own switch conductors are 14 AWG or 16 AWG depending on current rating, with a 90 cm (3 ft) pre-wired harness. If your run from panel to load exceeds that, upsize the extension cable one gauge rather than relying on the harness gauge alone — a correctly rated breaker won't compensate for an undersized run.

Do I still need a fuse block, or can the RESOLUTE switch feed straight off a busbar?

No separate fuse block is needed — the thermal breaker inside each RESOLUTE unit already protects its own circuit, so a busbar is sufficient upstream. The one thing to watch is cumulative busbar amperage: if the combined continuous load of all RESOLUTE circuits on one busbar approaches or exceeds its rated capacity, split the panel across two busbars rather than loading one. This is a panel design decision, not a RESOLUTE limitation

If it trips repeatedly, does the reset behavior or trip threshold change?

Resetting immediately after a trip, before the thermal element has fully cooled, will cause it to trip again faster and at a lower apparent load — this is normal thermal memory, not a fault. Repeated fast-cycling isn't a workaround for an undersized rating; if a circuit trips more than once under normal use, re-check the connected load, cable gauge and busbar wiring rather than continuing to reset it.

Can I gang multiple switches RESOLUTE tightly, and is night mode available?

RESOLUTE units can be mounted edge-to-edge on a panel, but thermal breakers packed tightly together run warmer collectively, which can lower the effective trip point of units in the middle of a bank under sustained load. On dense panels (6+ units), leave minimal spacing where possible or avoid loading every adjacent circuit to its full continuous rating at once. LED indication also supports a dimmed night mode for helm use, wired independently on the 22 AWG LED conductors separate from the switch load path.
