A compact marine davit built around reach, height and load — not one fixed lifting position. The BAYWATT CR400 is a portable marine davit crane designed for tenders, RIBs, dinghies, outboard motors and heavy onboard equipment. Its adjustable boom lets the operator balance lifting capacity, horizontal reach and hook height according to the real installation and the load being handled.

With five boom-angle positions (A–E) and four extension positions (1–4), the CR400 provides 20 working configurations. This makes the same davit suitable for very different lifting situations: reaching farther over the side of a boat, lifting a tender higher above a rail, or shortening the boom when maximum capacity is required.

Maximum capacity is geometry-dependent. The CR400 lifts up to 400 kg / 900 lb in its strongest configuration. The permitted load changes with boom angle A–E and extension position 1–4. The lift-capacity chart below always governs the maximum permitted load for the selected position.


One Portable Davit — 20 Lift / Reach Combinations

5 Boom Angles: A–E Move from lower, reach-focused positions to progressively higher hook positions. Position E gives the greatest lift height.
4 Boom Extensions: 1–4 Option 1 is the shortest and strongest boom setting. Option 4 gives the maximum horizontal reach.
360° Rotation Rotate the crane to transfer a controlled load between water, dock and deck after correct installation.
Portable 15 kg Arm The removable aluminum arm weighs approximately 15 kg / 33 lb, making storage and handling easier between lifts.

How to Read the CR400 Lift Capacity Chart

The CR400 chart combines the five arm-angle positions A to E with the four boom-extension positions 1 to 4. For each combination, the table gives three essential values: hook height, horizontal reach and maximum lifting capacity. Dimensions are shown in both millimetres and inches to make installation planning easier in Europe, the UK, the USA and other markets.

A → E = More Lift Height

As the arm rises from A toward E, the hook moves higher and closer to the mast. Use the higher positions when clearance over a gunwale, rail or deck structure is the priority.

4 → 1 = More Capacity

Retracting the boom reduces horizontal reach and increases the permitted load. E / Option 1 is the maximum-capacity configuration at 400 kg / 900 lb.

Marine Davit Applications

The CR400 is designed as a versatile portable boat davit rather than a permanently fixed single-purpose crane. Its adjustable lift geometry is particularly useful when the same installation must handle different loads or when space on deck is limited.

Tender & Dinghy Lifting Lift and position a tender or dinghy between the water, dock and reinforced deck area while selecting the reach needed for the installation.
RIB & Semi-Rigid Handling The load chart makes it possible to select a safe configuration according to the RIB weight and required reach.
Outboard Motor Handling Useful for lifting compact outboards and other heavy marine equipment where controlled vertical handling is required.
Boat, Dock & Utility Use Suitable for leisure craft, workboats and dockside applications when installed on a structure engineered for the lifting loads.

Choosing the Correct Lift Position

Before every lift, determine three values: load weight, required horizontal reach and required hook height. Then select a combination from the lift-capacity table in the product description. A longer boom position provides more reach but reduces allowable load, while a shorter boom position increases lifting capacity. Raising the boom from A toward E increases hook height and reduces reach.

The 400 kg / 900 lb rating therefore describes the maximum capacity of the CR400 system in its strongest geometry, not the permitted load in every position. This distinction is especially important for tender cranes and boat davits because the required reach can change significantly depending on deck layout, rail height, mounting location and the position of the load relative to the mast.


Installation & Lifting Safety

The lift-capacity table governs the actual permitted load. Do not apply the 400 kg / 900 lb headline rating to a position with a lower chart capacity.

For loads above approximately 250 kg, use the specified snatch-block / double-line arrangement. The deck, wall or supporting structure must also be appropriately engineered and reinforced for the imposed lifting loads.

Keep personnel clear of suspended loads and inspect the cable, hook, fasteners, winch, mounting points and locking pins before operation.
